The Happy Valley Football Club is proud of its culture of developing young footballers and equally important, developing tomorrow’s young adults. Our participation in all grades of the SFL has always been strong and as a club we are proud to have played a part in developing young footballers, such as Nathan Eagleton, Ben Rutten, Jason Porplyzia, Beau Waters, Matthew Rogers, Tom McNamara, and Taite Silverlock, who have all gone on to play at the highest level.
Whilst football is the core of the club, equally we are very strong in ensuring that our sub-junior program is all about ‘having a go’ and giving the players equal opportunity to play and develop their skills. We are acutely aware that players will develop at different speeds and therefore all players are deserving of the opportunity to participate and most importantly to have fun. Our coaches are chartered with the responsibility of giving this opportunity to all and in developing a team mentality where success is celebrated as a team, not as a group of individuals. Playing junior football is one of the best memories that players will have and we aim to ensure that all who come through the doors of the Happy Valley Football Club remain involved with the club in some capacity.
If you are able to help in any way, this makes us stronger as a club and leads to a better experience for all involved. Helping out in areas such as canteen, goal umpiring, team management, assisting at training etc. all results in our children playing and involved at a club that is inclusive, successful and professional in the way we present ourselves within the SFL community.
Sub-junior teams are fielded in the Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 competition, with there usually being two teams at each grade level (Black and Yellow). Teams are chosen not on ability, but on the criteria of siblings, school groups and existing friendships, with the aim that players will be grouped together wherever possible, right up to the junior grades. Our aims for 2012 are maximum player numbers, maximum involvement from parents and most of all that all sub junior players experience the fun, teamwork and excitement of the great game of Australian Rules Football.
